Official inflation (CPI) tracks a national basket of goods with set weights. Your spending is different: maybe rent is 50% of it, healthcare 20%, and travel 5%. When the things you spend most on rise in price faster than the national basket, your cost of living climbs faster than the headline rate.

Add up your monthly spending across the main categories (housing, food, transport, healthcare, and so on), multiply each one by its own inflation rate, then divide by your total spend.
